The brief
Kanpus came to us with a working prototype and a clear thesis: international curriculum students (IB, AP, SAT) lacked a tutoring platform that spoke their language — both literally and academically. Existing platforms were either local marketplaces or US-centric. The brief was to build the real thing: global, multi-language, exam-specific, and defensible.
The challenge
Booking across timezones, payments across currencies, and AI-assisted lesson prep that teachers actually wanted to use — all in one codebase, with a content model that could grow to thousands of lessons without turning into a CMS nightmare.
How we approached it
- Built on Next.js App Router with a single content model spanning subjects, tracks, lessons, and tutor profiles.
- Stripe + localized payment methods with a reconciliation layer that survives refunds, transfers, and tax edge cases.
- AI lesson-prep copilot integrated into the tutor dashboard — retrieval over past sessions, curriculum-aware summaries, and guardrails teachers can override.
- Internationalization strategy that separates UI copy from curriculum content, so new languages ship in days, not weeks.
Outcome
- Live in production across multiple countries with active students and tutors.
- Lesson-booking flow instrumented end-to-end; conversion tracked from browse to paid session.
- AI copilot measurably shortens tutor prep time for repeat topics, validated via in-product feedback.
